Early research shows that taking edible pulp of prickly pear cactus day-to-day for 4 weeks, though following a diet program, reduces total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL or “bad”) cholesterol levels in people with inherited high cholesterol. His diabetes was nicely controlled, but on taking raw prickly pear cactus for 2 months to try and cure his diabetes he developed standard episodes of hypoglycemia.
